Burn it right.
Every time.

Every Helenairy candle is hand-poured with care — and the way you burn it makes all the difference. Follow these six steps to get the most out of your candle, from the first light to the last.

Proper care means a longer burn, a fuller scent throw, and a safer space. It takes less than a minute and it's worth it.

Step by step

01

Trim the wick

Before every burn, trim your wick to ¼ inch (6mm). A long wick causes uneven burning, excess soot, and a flame that's bigger than it needs to be.

Always trim cold — never lit

Stable surface

Set your candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface away from edges, curtains, and anything that can catch fire. Our cement vessels act as a natural heat-safe base.

Away from all flammables

Full melt pool — first burn

On your very first burn, let the candle burn until the entire surface melts to the edges. This takes 2–3 hours and sets the wax memory — skipping it causes tunnelling.

Prevents wasted wax

Max 4 hours

Never burn longer than 4 hours in one session. Extended burning overheats the vessel and can cause the wick to mushroom. Let the candle cool fully before relighting.

Snuff — don't blow

Blowing out a candle sends soot and hot wax into the air. Use a candle snuffer or gently press the wick into the melt pool to extinguish, then straighten.

Keeps scent clean and fresh

Stop at ½ inch

When ½ inch of wax remains, stop burning. Continuing to burn past this point overheats the vessel base and can cause damage or cracking.

Then repurpose the vessel

Always do

  • Keep in sight the entire time it's burning
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Burn in a well-ventilated room
  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings and debris
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight

Never do

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended
  • Never burn near curtains, paper, or flammable materials
  • Never move a lit or still-hot candle
  • Never burn in a drafty or windy spot
  • Never use water to extinguish

After your candle

Give the vessel a second life

Once your candle is done, clean the vessel with warm water and mild soap. Our hand-cast cement vessels make beautiful plant pots, brush holders, desk organisers, and trinket dishes.
